The drawings explore the stories of a group of resistance-minded mountaineers in the mountains of Saxon Switzerland during the Nazi era. They used leaflets to inform the public about the machinations of the increasingly powerful Nazis, such as the establishment of the Hohnstein concentration camp. To be able to print undisturbed, they used their knowledge of the mountains and set up a secret printing workshop in the cave at Satanskopf in 1933: they hauled a mimeograph machine and a typewriter up into the mountains and produced leaflets there.

Contrary to some historical accounts which portrayed the workshop as an illegal KPD party office, the workshop could only be maintained for a few weeks. This was because the ‘sounds of the typewriter, which were completely out of place in the forest’, echoed through the mountains and made the operation even riskier than it already was. This echo not only disrupted the printing activities of these courageous anti-fascists, but also reverberated in the stories told about them.
